The feedback from audiences attending the 2022 festival was clear – it was the best Carnival of Words ever! After two years of hosting the Carnival online, it was so good to emerge from the post-Covid 19 restrictions and to have authors appear before live audiences. Yes, we were careful – and we ensured everyone’s well-being, but giving people the opportunity to meet writers and be entertained in person by them was so uplifting.
There were many exciting performances. Bethan Gwanas, Milly Johnson and Gervase Phinn entertained us! Mark Billingham, Alan Johnson and Simon McCleave thrilled us! Jason Bray, Ian Lucas and a Murder Mystery made us think! We had poetry, travelogues and children’s stories. There was even a writers’ carousel with local authors, poets and musicians telling us their stories. Now we’re looking forward enthusiastically to 2023.
The dates have been set. The Carnival of Words will take place from 22 to 29 April, 2023. We’re already contacting authors so we can build on this year’s great event. If you want to be kept posted on what’s coming up, sign up for our newsletter or go to our website.
Wrexham may have missed out on the City of Culture but the local literary scene is set to grow. Be part of that. See you soon.
